Key Concepts of Esthetic Dentistry: Demystifying the Restorative
Process
Instructor: Robert R. Winter, DDS (Visiting from Newport
Beach, California)
Dates: September 9-12, 2009
Achieving esthetic excellence in single or multiple tooth restorations is
one of the most rewarding tasks that dentists and technicians can undertake.
We have the opportunity to provide the patient with a restoration that is
biologically acceptable, functionally enduring, and tooth-like in appearance.
A comprehensive assessment and determination of the esthetic outcome prior
to treatment is essential to treatment planning. Clinical procedures, the
timing of different treatment modalities, and a systematic thought process
will be described in detail. Participants in this course will have the unique
opportunity to observe Dr. Winter demonstrating clinical and technical procedures.
Participants will then be able to perform these techniques on simulation models.
Diverse clinical situations will be simulated in addition to utilizing a variety
of materials and methodologies.
Participants will gain a unique understanding of:
- Oral-facial and esthetic analysis as an integral part of diagnosis and
treatment planning
- Comprehensive oral assessment, case presentation, and informed consent
- Functional analysis for occlusal considerations
- Appropriate treatment decisions based on tooth position, arrangement,
and gingival harmony
- Arranging the teeth within the smile
- Midline considerations
- Determining the size and shape of the teeth
- Determining the incisal edge position
- Determining the gingival level
- Intra-oral photography as a communication tool-concepts, equipment, and
techniques

and restorative treatment

- Soft tissue management during preparation, impressions, provisional and
final restoration placement
- How to create a harmonious gingival-restorative interface
- How magnification can be used as an adjunct for clinical procedures

at the gingival embrasure
