Surgical Procedures for Probing Depth Reduction in Periodontitis

This will be an in-depth course for those practitioners wishing to expand their skills and knowledge with regard to resective periodontal surgery versus regenerative therapy. The course is a clinically-orientated presentation, with emphasis on treatment planning, hands-on surgical techniques on mannequin models with traditional rotary instrumentation and hand instruments, as well as, the use of Piezosurgery. Participants will be able to compare macrosurgery with microsurgery, as the course will include a hands-on introduction to the use of the surgical microscope. The course is designed to assist in obtaining more precise surgical results, less patient discomfort and more rapid healing.

- Influences of the soft and hard tissues on periodontal defects and surgery
- Root form influences on surgery and articulated maxillary and mandibular study models with various appropriate root forms
- Rationale of resective surgery and published longitudinal studies
- Hands-on resective surgery with and without magnification
- Crown lengthening
- Maxillary and mandibular tori reduction
- Hands-on instrument tied suture placement under magnification
- The lingual approach to mandibular osseous surgery
- Extraction and ridge preservation procedure
- Surgical instrumentation
- Pre-prosthetic ridge modification
- Instrument suturing
