Dates: November 8-11, 2006
Course Description
This advanced course will focus on the "state of the art" of periodontal regeneration in intrabony defects. It is a clinically-oriented, scientifically sound presentation with a main objective: perfect clinical outcomes of periodontal regenerative therapy. The expected outcomes will be clearly defined in order to set the pre-surgical objectives and select the appropriate regenerative strategy. The speaker will present a step by step approach to optimize the incorporation of periodontal regeneration into a comprehensive treatment plan. Special emphasis will be given to diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical technique, and patient management. Specific areas, like selection of the regenerative strategy according to the given defect, application of specifically designed surgical approaches and suturing techniques, as well as organization of the pre- and post-surgical period, will be discussed in depth. Esthetic implications will be carefully explored. The adjunctive benefit of using a surgical microscope, and microsurgical instruments will be discussed and demonstrated. Long term outcomes of periodontal regeneration and the impact of the recall system will be evaluated. This course is tailored for those clinicians willing to improve their decision-making ability and surgical skill. Teaching methods will include lectures, video demonstrations, live demonstration, hands on training, and study group work on clinical cases. At the end of the course participants will be able to answer the following questions:
