Live Patient: Start to Finish
Instructor: Walter M. Gebhard, C.D.T. (Visiting from Zurich, Switzerland)
Dates: Part I February 17-18, 2006, Part II March 17-18, 2006
Course Description

This is a four day, two part, and live patient comprehensive hands-on course. The case will be a maxillary anterior restoration.

Part I
Full Wax-Up

The close cooperation between patient, dentist and dental technician results in esthetic sensitivity, which allows the technician to respond even more consciously to the patient's wishes. Prior to this course, each participant will receive stone-models of the case (a pour of the upper arch for a master model and the antagonist which every participant should mount in a medium value articulator). The full wax-up is produced on the working model using tooth colored wax. The focus in the first part of the course is to recognize the facial characteristics by using esthetic guidelines and phonetic properties. The results of the facial analysis will be transferred into the wax-up under consideration of 3D guidelines. The full wax-up will be placed and modified until we reach a pleasant result for all partners: patient, technician and dentist. Depending on the case, the participants and dentist will decide between PFM and zirconium oxide for the framework. The participants will take the finished full wax-up home to their own laboratories and produce the framework for the second part of the course.

Part II
Shade Selection & Veneering

The participants will first control the framework and then evaluate the patient's tooth color and build up the crowns. The full wax-up we produced in the first part of the course will serve as a blueprint to the definitive reconstruction. The build up crown will then be placed in the patient. The focus in Part II of the course is on shade selection, ceramic stratification techniques, surface structure, precision and function.
