Shade Communication with Spectrophotometer
Instructor: Aki Yoshida, C.D.T. (Visiting from Weston, Massachusetts)
Dates: September 25-26, 2009
Course Description

Shade matching for a single central restoration requires both the photographic skill of a clinician and the porcelain skill of a technician.

Current shade communication systems, such as digital photography, sometimes result in shade mismatching.  This failure can be attributed to inaccurate color calibration amongst the camera, flash system and monitor.

This unique course will provide insight into a high precision shade matching technique utilizing the Olympus Crystal Eye Spectrophotometer system.

The course will explain how to effectively capture the tooth image, as well as discuss the
accurate analysis of the resulting color data.

Each participant will learn how to ultimately apply all color information into a porcelain
layering and create lifelike zirconia restorations.

Live demonstrations include:

  • Lab side virtual Try-in ( After initial zirconia crown bake), and subsequent color correction.
  • Surface texture & luster control
  • Surface staining techniques
