Instructor: Naoki Aiba, C.D.T. (Visiting from Monterey, California)
Dates: August 22-23, 2008
Course Description
Thanks to the rapid development of the digital camera technology, photography is becoming much easier recently. However, in reality, the science of the photography is complicated; thus, many of us are still struggling with how to take a good photograph. In this hands-on course, award-winning professional photographer and ceramist, Naoki Aiba, CDT will address (1) what dentists/dental technicians need to know about photography, (2) how to take a "good picture," and (3) how to maximize the use of the photographs into our work. This hands-on course starts with the lecture, "Dental Photography & Esthetic Communication." In this lecture, Mr. Aiba will explain the basic science of photography, equipment for dental photography, basic technique of dental photography and protocol of esthetic communication. He will also address how to read the shade from photography to incorporate into restorations. After the lecture, participant's flash systems will be measured and calibrated by Mr. Aiba. Then, everyone exercises the basic protocol of dental photography to find the best exposure for both intraoral and bench photography. After the photo-shooting exercise, photos are evaluated for questions and diagnosis. At that time, basic uses of Photoshop and PowerPoint or Keynote are also discussed. On the second day, ceramists will challenge the single central matching case, using the photographs taken on the first day. Application of the photo information into ceramic build-up and contouring will be illustrated. Learning Objects:
